TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS

"A dialogical perspective assumes that "individuality" isn't sufficient. It assumes that genuine uniqueness arises out of real relatedness with others. Individuality is but one pole within an overall rhythmic alternation between our individual separateness and our participation in something larger than us - the interhuman."

- Richard Hycner

The Arnold Beisser Scholarship Fund is a philanthropic program offered by GTILA to support trainees who have enrolled for Gestalt therapy training and can demonstrate financial need. The purpose of this program is to make Gestalt training more accessible to those who are interested but would otherwise not be able to afford the tuition costs. Donations to the ABSF will allow us to continue granting scholarships in each successive training year. To make a tax-deductible contribution to the ABSF, email Sharon Law, GTILA Treasurer, at sharonlaw71@gmail.com.

Dr. Arnold Beisser was a founding member and trainer with GTILA and the author of Paradoxical Theory of Change. He was a graduate of Stanford University and its medical school and a clinical professor of psychiatry at the University of California at Los Angeles. He was instrumental in the formation of the Westside Center for Living, a training center in community mental health and wrote Mental Health Consultation. Dr. Beisser also wrote The Madness in Sports and was a consultant to the Baseball Commission. He was a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a recipient of its Gold Achievement Award. During the last few years of his life Dr. Beisser wrote a trilogy of books: Flying without Wings, A graceful Passage – Notes on the Freedom to Live or Die and The Only Gift – Thoughts on the Meaning of Friends and Friendship. He is survived by his wife, Rita. Dr. Beisser was mentor and friend to many and a treasure to us all. He is well missed.

Any GTILA member who may need a partial training scholarship is eligible to apply.  In addition, we also accept applications from non-GTILA members as long as a current GTILA member agrees to sponsor the application.  Sponsorship means you endorse the application and the applicant's attendance at the Gestalt training institute of his/her choice.  Partial scholarships will be granted based on financial need. Interested applicants may print the application form below and send to the designated address.
